The ‘Balloon Bench’ was a piece of design inspired by the 1953 French film, Le Balloon Rouge. This film tells a story about a little boy that befriends a red balloon and romps throughout the streets of Paris. The movie later was released in America with an english title being ‘The Red Balloon’ and brought home an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. The story is magical with it’s classic imagery, sounds and landscapes. The red balloon is never too far from the little boy and follows him around. However the story becomes a little evil when others start to admire and want this precious balloon.

Back to the bench, designer Satoshi Itasaka from h220430 studio, designed the bench to appear suspended in mid air, held up by a selection of balloons. Yet the reality is, Satoshi has suspended the bench from the ceiling by 4 anchors concealed by the shapes of the balloon bundles. Funny enough, this exceptional sculpture can actually be purchased from the gallery ‘Somewhere’ in Tokyo, Japan.
